Physical Education (PE)
We believe that Physical Education is an important part of every child’s development. Through a safe, inclusive and supportive environment, we encourage children to enjoy being active, develop healthy lifestyles and build confidence, resilience and teamwork skills.
We use the Get Set 4 PE scheme to deliver a broad and engaging curriculum. Children take part in two PE lessons each week and experience a wide range of activities, including gymnastics, dance, swimming, invasion games, net and wall games, striking and fielding, and outdoor and adventurous activities.
Our PE curriculum helps children to:
- Develop physical competence and confidence.
- Understand the importance of health, fitness and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively and show respect for others.
- Build resilience, leadership and communication skills.
- Enjoy participation in both individual and team sports.
We are committed to ensuring that all children can access and succeed in PE, with appropriate support provided where needed.
In the early years, gross and fine motor skills are developed through den building, large scale construction play, mark making, scissor skills and pencil control.
Additional Sporting Opportunities
Children also benefit from a range of opportunities to develop their skills and enthusiasm for sport, including:
- Active play during morning and lunchtime breaks.
- Lunchtime and after-school clubs such as cricket, rounders, multi-skills, netball and hockey.
- Competitive sporting events and fixtures across our Trust.
- Participation in local hockey tournaments.
- Annual involvement in the Inspire+ Mini Olympics.
- Leadership opportunities through the Young Ambassador Scheme.
Through these experiences, we aim to inspire a lifelong enjoyment of physical activity and healthy living.
