At Surfleet Primary School, our science curriculum inspires curiosity and helps children develop a strong understanding of the world around them. Through practical, enquiry-based learning, children investigate, question and explore as scientists, building their knowledge and skills over time.

Scientific enquiry is at the heart of our curriculum. Key concepts are revisited so that children can deepen their understanding and make meaningful connections in their learning. Through hands-on investigations and real-life experiences, children develop the skills to observe, predict, test, record and draw conclusions.

We encourage children to think and work like scientists, exploring biology, chemistry and physics through exciting and engaging lessons. By developing their scientific knowledge and enquiry skills, children become confident learners who can explain and understand the world around them.

Science in Early Years

In Early Years, children begin their scientific journey by exploring the world around them through play, observation and discussion. They are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions and investigate what they see, hear and experience.

Learning both indoors and outdoors helps children develop curiosity about plants, animals, seasons and their own bodies. Through these experiences, they build the vocabulary and understanding needed for future scientific learning while developing a lifelong love of discovery.
