Music

We believe music is for everyone. Music inspires creativity, builds confidence and helps children express themselves. Through singing, playing instruments, composing, listening and performing, children develop musical skills and an appreciation of music from a wide range of cultures and traditions.

Our music curriculum follows the National Curriculum and provides a broad, balanced and progressive programme of study. Children develop their knowledge, understanding and practical skills while exploring music from different periods, genres and cultures. Music also helps children develop resilience, teamwork, creativity and self-confidence.

We aim to make music an enjoyable and memorable part of school life. Children regularly take part in performances, assemblies, productions and celebrations, giving them opportunities to share their talents, work collaboratively and perform with confidence.

We are ambitious for all children and encourage those with a particular interest or talent in music to take part in additional musical opportunities within and beyond school.

Through our Music curriculum, we aim to develop children who:

• Sing and perform with confidence.
• Create and compose music independently and collaboratively.
• Use and understand a wide range of musical vocabulary.

In the early years, music is enjoyed and created through learning and singing simple songs and rhymes and using our bodies as percussion!
