History

At Surfleet Primary School, our History curriculum inspires curiosity about the past and helps children understand how historical events have shaped the world today. Through the study of British and world history, children develop knowledge of significant people, events and civilisations while making connections between the past and present.

Children learn to think like historians by exploring enquiry questions, analysing sources, developing chronological understanding and evaluating evidence. They build critical thinking skills and confidently use historical vocabulary to communicate their ideas.

Our carefully sequenced curriculum enables children to deepen their understanding of key historical concepts over time. Learning is enhanced through the use of primary and secondary sources, educational visits, visitors and cultural experiences that bring history to life and enrich children's understanding of the world around them.

In the early years, children learn about the important people in their lives and how we change over time.  We celebrate important dates such as Bonfire Night.
