Art & Design

Through drawing, painting, sculpture and other creative activities, children explore their ideas, develop their imagination and express themselves confidently. Children learn about artists, designers and craftspeople from different cultures and time periods, helping them to understand and appreciate the wider world.

Based on the National Curriculum, our Art and Design curriculum develops knowledge and skills progressively across the school. Learning is often linked to wider topics, helping children make meaningful connections across subjects. Children study a range of artists and take part in collaborative projects that celebrate creativity throughout the school.

In the Early Years, children explore a variety of materials and techniques through play and guided activities. They experiment with colour, texture and different media, develop confidence using tools, and learn to express their ideas creatively.

As the children grow older, they use a range of materials to create artwork, developing skills in drawing, painting and sculpture. They learn about colour, pattern, texture, shape and form, while exploring the work of artists and designers.  Children refine their artistic skills and techniques, using sketchbooks to develop ideas and improve their work. They study influential artists, architects and designers and gain greater confidence in a range of media, including paint, charcoal and clay.
